What’s your favorite cuisine? Mine would be a close tie between Mexican and Japanese but if someone hands over a bowl-full of salsa to me, then any other food on the table will be totally ignored. I first came to know about Maya during the Taste of Dubai festival and have been wanting to go there since then. So when the boyfriend who is not a big fan of Mexican cuisine asked me if I want to go to Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen + Lounge for dinner, I jumped for joy. :p
Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen + Lounge is in Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa, just follow the signs of the restaurant as it will have a different entrance. From the parking area, a buggy car picked us up to go to Maya. I must admit that it wasn’t the Mexican restaurant that I was expecting, it’s very posh and upscale although I see no dress code imposed whatsoever which is a good thing for me. We were immediately seated in the indoor area of the restaurant as it was still too hot outside. They also have a lounge upstairs for those who are there for drinks. I made a mental note to go back there during the cooler months as it looks like a cozy place to enjoy the evening.
I ordered sangria for drinks and nachos with beef brisket for appetizer. Hands down, it was the best nachos I’ve ever had. Even the boyfriend who hates nachos loved it! It was a good start until our main course arrived – I had chicken salad and the boyfriend had fish tacos. Both dish were mediocre. Well mine would be a little too sweet for my taste and the tacos were too tiny it should be considered as an appetizer. 🙂 Anyhow, I’ll probably go back there mainly for drinks, the nachos and the al fresco area.
