Things To Do in Santorini: Plan A Romantic Evening in Oia

April 13, 2014

The boyfriend and I aren’t really the romantic kind of couple. I mean he’s not the type to give me flowers for special occasions nor am I the type to get giddy and excited to receive it. Romantic for me is equivalent to cheesiness which is not really in my personality. I don’t even celebrate Valentine’s Day as I firmly believe that it’s just a commercialized holiday.

When we were in Santorini though, we couldn’t help but notice the romantic ambiance of the place which somehow made both us a little bit romantic too – surprisingly. At some point, during our stay there – we somehow got sick and tired of going to a restaurant or bar for a drink or two to cap our night off. We decided to buy a bottle of local wine and spend the night at the veranda of our hotel room. If you plan on doing the same, I highly recommend Vinsanto wine which we bought from a souvenir shop that we came across while walking around Oia. It’s a must, you’ve got to try it.

Vinsanto

Vinsanto is considered a dessert wine which works well for me as I only drink either sweet or sparkling wine. It had that fruity taste, kind of like dried prunes – I loved it! Too bad I can’t find it here in Dubai. We liked it so much that we bought it again on our last night in Santorini and spent the evening drinking it straight from the bottle (not really romantic) in one of the terraces in Oia. It’s a great way to end your trip to the romantic island of Santorini.

[…] The paella had a few pieces of mussels, prawns, squid and pieces of chicken mixed together with the fragrant yellow rice. As anybody would agree, this dish is all about the rice – it has to have the distinct flavor of seafood, moist on the outside and firm inside, not overcooked. The paella at The Cellar was definitely how it’s supposed to be, at least for my taste. It tasted so good that however bad the service we had when we first walked in this restaurant was immediately forgotten. I also had to take a good note of the wine we ordered as it tasted so much like my favorite wine – Vinsanto which we had in Santorini, Greece. […]
