We met the boyfriend’s long lost friends last week. Coming from Abu Dhabi they came to Dubai for the weekend and had one thing in mind – to go to Cielo Sky Lounge at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club. I know the place and to be very honest, there’s a reason why we haven’t been there yet. It’s one of those places which advertises itself as a posh rooftop lounge with strict dresscode and a minimum spend of AED1500 to reserve a table, those three aren’t really for me and as soon as I see the words “dress code” it automatically goes to that NEVER-GO-LIST which is now getting longer and longer what with all the posh venues this city is coming up with. You see, at my age “ahem!” – I can’t really be bothered dressing up for the night, wearing stilettos and screaming at the top of my lungs as I talk to people. It’s not really for me anymore, those days are long gone. Been there, done that – as they say. So I told the boyfriend to try to get away with it, I would love to see them again but in a calmer setting I suppose? Anyway, to make the long story short – we agreed to meet at the Boardwalk first for dinner and a few drinks before heading up to Cielo which is in the same building.
Boardwalk as you may know from my previous post has become a favorite restaurant for me and the boyfriend since we visited it last March. It was a pleasant night – it wasn’t too cold and not too hot so the outdoor seating area was perfect for us. After our dinner and a few drinks, we went to Cielo Sky Lounge which is just above Boardwalk. At the entrance, there was a couple talking to the heavyweight bouncer and I can only assume that they were not being let in for reasons I don’t really know. It isn’t a very encouraging sight for me to see with my pessimistic view about places like these, ironically though – we were let in with no hassle. The velvet rope was immediately unhooked for us and the bouncer gave us a welcoming smile – I was taken aback by this gesture. Lol. The place was packed and as I expected, mostly with young people. God I feel old! As much as I hate to admit it, I kinda like it though. Decorated with plush white couches in the middle of the lounge matched with white high tables and chairs – it gives out a very chic and hip atmosphere. The music was deafening though and as expected, we had to scream at each other’s ears.
The view from Cielo Sky Lounge is amazing. With QD’s restaurant below, the creek and the Dubai skyline at the horizon – it definitely adds up to the already chic ambiance of this place.
So what’s the verdict? It isn’t as bad and as snobbish as I thought it would be. I actually enjoyed it, that’s saying a lot for someone like me – trust me.
