Expat Life in Dubai

the weekend that was

March 26, 2010

Free-flowing alcoholic drinks.
Waiters with plateful of assorted sushi/sashimi/dumplings walking around the place offering you these yum yums.
Great music.
Company of crazy and pretty people.
All these for free.

still sober...

that was what my Wednesday night was comprised of, it was for Lufthansa’s kick off party for 2010. i wonder how they are able to throw 2 parties a year while all the other airlines can’t even give us a pizza for lunch when they visit our outlet for sales call. hehehehehe. well, it was a good place to see old friends and make new ones. i literally had to press my cheeks together at the end of the night as my cheek-muscles were stretched from all the laughing that i did. i have no idea how many glasses of vodka sprites did i finish, all i know is that when i finally got to my bed at 1230am my head was spinning and my hair smells of cigarette smoke. next day, as part of my usual hangover state – i was so hungry i finished 2 cups of rice with 6 bacon strips and 2 fried eggs within 15mins.

Thursday night i’ve met up with denden and kiki at the Jumeira Emirates Towers to satisfy our cravings of a peking duck at Noodlehouse. Ordered a whole duck, dimsums and noodles. I was not expecting KiKi to pig out on the duck as much as me and Deny did as she was “fasting”. well, probably her fasting has an exception then. You just can’t say NO to a peking duck. After the filling dinner, we went to Harry Ghatto’s – the very packed Karaoke bar. We were supposed to sing Dancing Queen and I Will Survive but for whatever reasons, those songs never played on the TV screens. I was more entertained watching the drunken people making a fool out of themselves than listening to the out-of-tune songs. I’m not criticizing these singers since if our song actually played, I will sound worst than all of them combined. It was fun, one of our new discoveries that we may or may not frequent in the upcoming weekends here in Dubai.

so i leave you with the last song i’ve heard in harry ghatto’s before we left:

Don’t go breaking my heart
You take the weight off me
Honey when you knocked on my door
I gave you my key
Oooooohooooo Nobody knows it
When I was down
I was your clown
Nobody knows it
Right from the start
I gave you my heart
I gave you my heart

-Elton John
