Have you ever walked in a restaurant and just by seeing the interior decor, the friendly faces of the staff and the warm welcome they give you – you immediately know that what you’re about to experience is going to be great? No? Then I suppose you haven’t dined at Cucina Italian Restaurant at Marriott Marquis City Center Doha yet.
My friend L and I decided to meet up for dinner and I suggested that we go to Cucina as it was the first restaurant which appealed to my food mood that day as I went through my The Entertainer Qatar App. I always just go through this phone application whenever I plan on going out – because seriously, why would you want to pay for the full price of anything if there is an option to pay half?
I didn’t have any expectations of what Cucina would be like, I just hoped that I made a good choice and that my friend L won’t doubt my decision-making skills of choosing a restaurant after this dinner. As it turned out, I couldn’t have chosen a better restaurant that night.
We arrived at 7pm which was just in time for the reservation that I have made. We were met by a very friendly receptionist and immediately led us to our non-smoking table. As I walked into the restaurant, the interior decoration blew me away – brick walls, low mood lighting, wooden chairs, steel banisters to divide the restaurant into sections, candles flickering on each table – they did a pretty good job of recreating a typical Italian restaurant with a modern touch.
The service was impeccable too, throughout the night – we were assisted by different staff which I consider to be a good sign as it shows the coordination of the restaurant. Whoever is available will assist you no matter where they were supposedly assigned for the night.
As I perused through their menu, my mouth began to water. They have an extensive selection of all your Italian dishes plus an option of an antipasto corner. The prices are very reasonable too, probably the best-priced Italian restaurant in the city. which is very unlikely in Doha as many food outlets here seem to charge you for the view that you have while you’re dining or for their interior decorator’s exorbitant fee or even their month’s rent.
I ordered spaghetti bolognese while L ordered pizza margherita. While my dish was good, I was drawn more towards the pizza margherita which was just absolutely divine! The crispy thin crust, wood-fired oven cooked pizza leaves a decadent taste in your mouth which will make you forget the strict diet you’re trying to impose to yourself. I cannot begin to explain how hard it was for me to refuse another slice of that pizza, I deserve a life-size statue for the self-control I have exerted that night.
After this first visit, Cucina has easily become one of my go-to places if I am craving for Italian food and the best part of it all is – they have The Entertainer vouchers. Yay! I always say that more than the food and the venue itself, it’s the company that I’m with which makes any experience more enjoyable but for this night – the food, the restaurant and the good company I had made an equal great impression on me.
