Expat Life in Dubai

The Dubai Autodrome Experience

February 27, 2010

the boyfriend and i had a dubai autodrome day yesterday, that was in lieu of his birthday 3 weeks ago. we could not get an available slot on the weekend of his birthday so took yesterday’s slot instead.

arriving at the autodrome, the drivers (of course that doesn’t include me, thank God!) had a briefing about the car they’re going to use and the track course that they’re going to take. fair enough, i was totally lost and felt really stupid sitting there inside the briefing room, listening to words i’ve never heard of in my entire life which happens to be parts of a car and some words i only heard in my physics subject in highschool, and all the drivers around me were nodding and understanding each alien words the instructor was saying like it’s the most obvious thing on earth, next to gravity.

How to drive a Formula 1 car 101.

after the briefing, we headed to the oval track (which is supposedly for beginners, if that’s for beginners then which track is for someone like errrrr a toddler like me?) it was supposed to be a 20mins driving which felt like forever. i had fun watching them and can feel the excitement everytime the F1 cars pass by me and i can hear the sound of their loud and very strong engines. they look like they’re flying right in front of my eyes, in a split second they’re gone and all that’s left are the grains of sands swirling around us spectators.

check the tires, now go!!!!!

vroom vroom!!!!

it was a fun experience and i’m really glad the boyfriend liked it.

so after the F1, we headed to the indoor kartdrome to use my Entertainer voucher for buy one indoor karting and get one free. we waited for about an hour before our turn comes. the kartdrome is alternating kids/adults races. apparently, i’m an adult and should be with them. boo hoo!!!!

definitely not Gabby de la Merced

the indoor karting track

our turn finally came and i got dizzy althroughout the 15mins race. the sharp curves and u-turns were too much for me. i thought i was going to throw up inside my helmet. so after about 2 lapses trying to beat those guys hitting my kart i called it quits and just cruised around the track like an old grandma driving around the suburbs. hahahaha. i felt really good when i saw yellow lights all around the track which means to slow down and our time was up. i was dizzy even after i went off the track and walked towards our car to head home. uh oh!

but anyway, it was a fun experience. sure i will never do the indoor karting again but would like to try the bigger outdoor karting. should be more fun and less sharp curves. :p

don’t be silly, that’s not me
