The case of the left ear.

It was a normal working day for me but then at around 12nn, I had this faint ringing sound in my left ear which started out as annoying then it became louder and louder and painful. Like someone is pricking it with a needle or nail or something sharp. Anyway, I had to go home because I also started feeling dizzy but that was only after I finalized all my pending work for the day (yes, I’m a good employee like that). I took a nap when I arrived home and woke up with a massive pain in my left ear. The ringing was no longer there but it was just really painful. I wasn’t able to sleep that night so I had to take another day off from work the next day to have it checked. Looking for a good doctor in Dubai is like looking for a needle in a haystack. A good doctor with reasonable fees and will not diagnose me for something which is more serious that what I have as it happens a lot in Dubai. The names or Dr. Marc Mueller and Dr. John Mc Ewan came up in a lot of community threads. I immediately made an appointment for both doctors but I was more inclined to see Dr. John McEwan as his clinic is nearer to my house. I never regretted that decision as he’s just absolutely fantastic. I was immediately given a 1045am appointment since there was a cancellation which works really well for me as I was afraid that I won’t be able to get an appointment the last minute. He checked my left ear and told me that it’s infected and that he had to clear the impacted earwax. However, since there was an infection the procedure of sucking out the earwax from my ear was horrendously painful. I think I was sitting in his clinic for a good 15 minutes just trying to get it sucked out of my ear. He did everything he could, put some water in it and antibiotics but to no avail, it was still really painful for me. So he gave me some drops that I should use overnight and that I had to come back the next day. He also tested my hearing and I found it really amazing that I’ve been walking around the city with a slightly deaf left ear. Seriously.

Anyhow, like a good girl that I am who follows doctor’s orders like my life depended on it, I started using the drops as soon as I got home. It’s really funny though because my left ear has totally stopped working by the time I arrived home. I couldn’t hear a thing from the movie that I was watching if I’m laying on my right side which covers my right ear. The next day, I went back to the doctor’s clinic and the procedure was a huge success. YAY! Some antibiotics were given for the infection and then I was sent home. Left ear is still a bit dull though but doctor said it’s normal. Should be well and good in a couple of days. So that’s the story of my left ear. Should you have anything like my story, I highly recommend Dr. John McEwan.

I don’t remember exactly but I think it’s around 300 to 400 dirhams? The doctor is very nice and good at what he does. 🙂
