Expat Life in Dubai

Taste of Dubai 2013

March 17, 2013

I was in Taste of Dubai yesterday with Nada of Undefined Declarations. An event which I have planned not to attend because of my extreme need of having a lazy Friday since the upcoming 2 weeks will be a 6-day work week for us. After much deliberation and a little bit of that guilty feeling of leaving my friend all alone in an event that we have planned to attend 2 months ago, I decided to just f*ck being lazy and just go to the damn event. It was great though, I’m glad that I went there. The weather was fantastic yesterday and the bands performing were all very good. Sadly, I was unable to try out anything because I just had a heavy breakfast at 3pm in * drum roll please * Shakespeare and Co. in Souk Al Bahar. Where else?

The ambiance was great though, it’s so seldom that you get to spend your days out in Dubai in a grass-covered area with all the goodness of gourmet food around you with affordable prices and a live band performing songs which you actually know and can sing along to. I planned to stay only for 2 hours maximum but I was there for about 4 or 5. People-watching is one of my hobbies and that event is very good for that. I also watched Nada eat her lunch/dinner (2 servings of steak, 1 pad thai, nachos and some desserts) the whole time we were there.

For those of you who doesn’t know, Taste of Dubai is a yearly event where restaurants showcase the best of the best of their menu. You will have a chance to sample these mouthwatering dishes for a price of 20-30 dirhams but of course it will only be a sampler’s size. Upon entering the venue, you will be given a lot of promotional discount vouchers from some of the participating restaurants and as you may all know, I am a sucker for discounts so I grabbed them all. You will also have a chance to know the secrets of the top chefs in Dubai as they create their signature dishes in front of you. You can also shop for ingredients that you don’t normally see in your local supermarket and most importantly, the event is licensed to serve booze so that alone should be a good reason for you to go there. To cut the long story short, it’s a food lover’s heaven.
