So I got sick. About time since the weather has already changed a couple of weeks ago and knowing how my immune system doesn’t accept this change easily, I should have gotten sick a few weeks earlier. I’d probably say that my immune system is a little bit off these days and have reacted in a much slower manner. Well I must say though that this was by far one of the worst viral infections caused by a weather change that I’ve had. I was down for 2 full days. That’s 48 hours without doing anything except for sleeping and waking up to take my medications. I didn’t even look at my iphone to check my mail, facebook, blog and all the other social media accounts that I have. That for me means I’m really and seriously sick.
It all started with a body ache, shortness of breathe and dry cough on a Wednesday and because I’m a smart ass, I did what most reasonable people would do – I diagnosed myself with the help of the interwebs. According to my diagnosis, I have the MERS Coronavirus. But of course, I’m just kidding. That joke wasn’t so funny to anyone who I’ve told that to though. Oh well. Anyway, since I didn’t have fever, I still went to work last Wednesday but dutifully bought myself a paracetamol and cough syrup on my way home. I had fever Wednesday night but was ok Thursday morning. Since my shift starts at 12nn at work on a Thursday, I had the whole morning to recuperate or try at least. I went to work that afternoon with a slight fever feeling like I’m Supergirl. I don’t know, I’m always feeling like I have some sort of super powers whenever I go to work with a fever. You see when I was a kid, I was always sick and when I say I’m sick, I am rrrrreally sick. Like IV/dextrose, shots, hospital and the whole works sick. I’ll have to stay in bed the whole time even with the slightest fever. So now that I am much older, I feel like I have gained superpowers whenever I find the strength to walk and go to work with a fever. I believed in this superpower since I have managed to do this a couple of times and the fever will just go without having the need for me to nurse it. So last Thursday, I was feeling the same thing. I thought I’ll be able to outsmart this fever once again if I just ignore its existence. At around 9pm (was working until 10pm), my colleague told me that my left eye turned red. I ignored that remark until I went to the loo and saw it myself, my left eye was bloodshot red. I noticed too that whenever I cough, it becomes more red. I panicked but didn’t show it to anyone. I went to bed that night with a very sore left eye.
The next morning, I woke up with a terrible and massive body ache. I was also burning with a 38.5 degree fever. So much for superpowers hey? I went to Iranian Hospital at around 1030 in the morning and was treated right away. I must say that the staff of that hospital are all very efficient except for the guy at the reception who unfortunately issues the sick leave certificate. That guy was a big assh*le! If not for the fact that I needed that certificate I could’ve told him to just shove it up his ass if he doesn’t want to work. He’s the laziest, sleaziest and ugliest person in that hospital – all the others were great. Anyhoots, I was given an antibiotics in an IV for a much faster result I suppose but that too didn’t even help (see photo at the beginning of this post). I stayed in the hospital for about 3 hours before I was sent home. I spent the whole Friday and Saturday on the bed sleeping, getting up only to eat some cereals or yogurt before taking one of the millions of the medicines given to me. Saturday evening, I started sweating which means it’s almost over! Yay! Sunday morning, I was still feeling a bit weak but much better than the previous days. I still have a bit cough but it’s no longer as bad as the previous days which could cause my eyes getting red. I no longer have the fever which is the most important I suppose.
Although all of the above happened for real and I didn’t just make all of those up, I am still feeling a little guilty that I had to skip work for 2 days. Well, what can I say? I’m a geek!
Thank you to all of those who sent me get well messages on my personal Facebook, my Facebook page, my Instagram account, thru SMS and email. Although I have all seen everything just now, it still made me feel better knowing that I won’t just vanish into thin air and nobody will notice it. 🙂
