I was a guest of Champions during this Saturday brunch however as always, photos are my own and opinions stated are genuine and in no way influenced.

I’m the kind of person who, if given the option, would choose a sports bar or a pub over a fine dining restaurant. I love going to places where the dress you wear or the amount of make-up you have is NOT the key to get in. Come as you are is more like my kind of place. Specially on a weekend, why would anyone want to dress up and be fancy when you’re supposed to be on a relaxed mindset? This is the reason why The Greek Mister and I both love Champions at Marriott Marquis City Center since we came to Doha.

A no-frills door policy, all they really need is your residence permit or passport which is normal in this side of the world. Men wearing shorts? That’s not a problem! It’s a sports bar after all and unlike many other sports bars out there, they’re not having an identity crisis by imposing ridiculous dress codes. I can absolutely name a few of those ridiculous sports bars but I don’t want to take the spotlight off Champions because it does deserve the spotlight specially for this Saturday brunch.

Priced at QR225 per person, I think this is the best valued brunch in the city. It would’ve been the same amount that you’d pay or probably even more if you go there on a regular night, given that you drink like The Greek Mister who thinks beer is water. The price includes an unlimited serving of selected drinks which practically covers everything – bottled beer, draught beer, spirits and wines. They didn’t skimp on their selections as you can see.

This brunch doesn’t have a buffet which is why I love it! Their most popular dishes will be served on an unlimited basis instead. I have to say though that I wasn’t a big fan of any of the dishes they served that time which was quite a disappointment as I’ve always loved their Champions sampler. The sliders they served was too dry, fries was too limp and the wasabi prawns was not thoroughly cooked (at least some pieces of it). The chicken wings were good though as always, not super good but definitely so much better than a recently opened restaurant which prides itself for specializing in chicken wings. * wink * wink *

I don’t mind the food really, after all it’s a sports bar and maybe we caught their kitchen on a bad day. Anyway, people don’t really go to a sports bar for the purpose of dining as most of them will have food as their third reason to be in one – 1. Watch sports; 2. Beer; 3. Food. The Greek Mister disagrees with me though because for him, food isn’t even on the list for him to be in a sports bar. Sports and beer, give him a bowl popcorn and he’ll be fine.

Saturday brunch concept at Champions is very new, so new that when we went there only 3 other tables were occupied. That didn’t affect the mood whatsoever though as it only took half an hour before the men of each tables started singing along as the live band performs “Someone Like You by Adele”. Yep, grown men singing Adele, including The Greek Mister. This is why I love Champions, you feel… at home.

I’m not sure if they’re just testing the waters for this Saturday brunch but I do hope they’d keep it. We can see ourselves skipping Friday brunches in the future so we can enjoy this Saturday brunch instead. Food, I hope would be better the next I go there and yes, there will be a next time.

Ok, I was a bit surprised reading about showing resident card or passport??
Anyways, looks like a good concept for brunch.

Resident card or passport (if you’re not a resident) is required to check your age, track people who have been drinking in case of accidents and also because Qatari women are not allowed inside bars and clubs. 🙂

Was just at a pub on Saturday for early dinner. Loud and fun was the atmosphere, had a ton of fun with friends. The pub grub is served in large portions, but as much as I enjoy pub grub, I don’t think it would be the kind you eat for brunch, just my opinion.

No it’s not but here in Doha, there are so many brunches that you can choose from so they have to find ways to be different and I think serving pub grubs at a very cheap price is brilliant! Quite a change from the usual brunch scene. 🙂
