Reasons You Should NOT Go To Doha Marriott’s Street Food Doha + A GIVEAWAY!!

Street Food Doha, Doha Marriott Hotel

My love for street food is like Kanye West’s love for himself, a freaking HUGE deal! So when I received an invitation from Doha Marriott to try out their new Thursday dining concept which features street food around the world – it instantly became the most awaited event for me for the whole week.

While the rest of Doha is serving a seafood buffet on a Thursday night, Doha Marriott’s Street Food Doha is breaking away from the norm to set itself apart from the rest of the Thursday dining scene in the city and I have to say they were very successful in doing so. The whole concept is so new to me and I found it so innovative and clever, this is a difference that will not be so hard for me to embrace and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it becomes THE place to be for a Thursday night specially for all the foodies in the city.

That is unless you’re one of these people, if you can identify yourself with any of the below then please DO NOT go to Doha Marriott’s Street Food Doha.

1. If you’re boring.

The restaurant gallery at Doha Marriott becomes even more vibrant during Street Food Doha and will immediately trigger your senses. The mixed aroma of all the dishes served will make you hungrier than you already are. The colors of the food as well as the surroundings will make you feel like you’re walking in an actual marketplace. And finally, the “food vendors” announcing what they have to offer in a megaphone speaker will definitely make you feel like you’re actually in the city their food is representing. It is so much fun!! I have never enjoyed a chaos before as much as I enjoyed it at Street Food Doha. If you think these are all too much for you (read: because you’re boring) then do NOT, for the love of all things that matter to you, go there. Just stay at home in your pyjamas and be sad.

2. If you’re not an adventurous foodie.

As mentioned earlier, I’m a big fan of street food so seeing all of the skewers ready for grilling with all kinds of sauces and spices that you can use made my heart skip a beat! On top of that, you also have a wide range of choices for other kinds of hot dishes served on a paper plate – street food style of course. They also have a “wet market” area where you are spoilt for choices of all sorts of sea creatures for you to devour. From fish to lobsters, they’re ready to grill it for you and will be delivered to your table in paper bags. If eating something new to you isn’t your kind of thing, then please – do us all a favor and go someplace else. Street Food Doha is only for the fun, adventurous and fearless foodies.

3. If you’re on a diet.

To be honest, I am on a diet. It doesn’t show physically but trust me, I’m trying my very best to lose weight. I left the diet concept at home where it belongs before I went to Doha Marriott for the StreetfoodDoha – it just doesn’t feel right to be all conscious of what you’re going to eat when presented with these kinds of food. That’s actually my life in a nutshell – it’s a constant battle of wanting lose weight and my love for good food, the latter always win!

At Street Food Doha, the buffet spread is HUGE! Whatever size you’re thinking now of how huge it is, you should probably multiply it by two! When I arrived and was given a tour by Katie, I thought it will never end and that I should probably eat some barbecue while doing it because she just kept on going and going. Whenever I thought that it’s probably the last area that she will show me, she will then move forward and voila! Another spread of dishes is right in front of us.

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I’m generally not a big fan of buffet-style dining as I’m always overwhelmed by the amount of food that I see on the spread. However, I realized that it’s not the case when I’m presented with little portions of food in a very fun environment. Even The Greek Mister who usually hates buffets more than I do loved the whole concept of Street Food Doha. It doesn’t really feel like you’re indulging because you eat all of the dishes in little portions plus, the food served aren’t displayed for long periods of time because everything is prepared and grilled upon request.

They certainly didn’t skimp on anything because even the drinks are presented in such a way that everything’s within your reach. You don’t have to wait for a waiter to bring the drinks to you, just go out – take some from the fridge or from huge buckets full of ice and you’re good to go.

I’m definitely going back to try it out again, probably not this week because I would want to still fit in my trousers in the coming days. Street Food Doha definitely ruined my diet, all those hours of training in the gym vanished into thin air. I had no regrets though. Absolutely no regrets.

This is a fantastic concept – and based on the description and pictures it is a vibrant display with a great atmosphere. The decor also appears very accurate – the decor of the wet market area brought me right back to a similar one in Spain, while the skewers of different foods to be boiled reminded me of rows of stalls in China selling foods on sticks.

That’s very true – everything was spot-on. The food, the decor and the atmosphere. It’s a thorough planning I suppose. 🙂
