Welcome back! You haven’t been to Opal by Gordon Ramsay since February. That was the alert I got from Swarm when I checked in at this restaurant a few days ago for a business lunch with my friend AM. I realized then that the last time I was there was also for a business lunch with my friend Y, when we sat outside their fabulous outdoor dining patio. Unfortunately, it was too
sandstormy windy the other day to sit outside. I didn’t feel like I was missing something though because the indoor dining area is just as fab!
I arrived at exactly 12nn, just as they opened. I didn’t expect though that a group of women would beat me for being the first customer of Opal by Gordon Ramsay. After a few minutes, my friend AM arrived and we immediately placed our orders. I was quite disappointed to see that they have changed their business lunch menu entirely – they no longer have the pan roasted half chicken which was my favorite.
Priced at QAR100 per person, the Opal Power Lunch includes a choice of a starter, main course and desserts. It’s a fantastic deal if you ask me. For starters, I had fresh green salad which came true to its promise of being fresh. Tossed in a very light French dressing, it gave it a little bit of flavor. If I had the option though, I’d probably put more dressing into it.
I chose to have a pan-roasted hamour as a main course which was incredibly crispy when it came. The vierge sauce added the zesty flavor into it which I love with any of my fish dishes. The only complaint I have is that it wasn’t a big serving. I practically inhaled the dish as soon as it came, it was really good.
For my dessert, I chose to have a cheesecake with marinated strawberries. I’m not very fond of sweets but this cake wasn’t sweet at all which suited my taste really well.
Compared to my friend’s fruit of the day which came as sliced kiwi on her plate, my dessert was definitely the winner. I could sense my friend’s jealousy in her eyes so I let her take a bite of my cheesecake. I’m very generous, I know.
It was a great business lunch with a very good value for money. I must say though that the fruit of the day option for dessert was quite disappointing. For a restaurant such as theirs, I was expecting something like a fruit cocktail or at least a combination of two fruits to be served. Also, coffee or tea to be included with the dessert would be a great option too.
