We had a complimentary spa treatment at Chi, The Spa during our stay in Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa. I have to say that Chi is its own resort, I was not expecting such a huge area solely for the resort’s spa facilities but I guess that’s the main reason why this property is very well-known to pamper their guests. You can’t go wrong with Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa.
Our couple’s massage was scheduled at 4:45 in the afternoon however as I know that there will be facilities that I can use before the massage itself, we went there at 4 in the afternoon to make the most out of it. We took the shuttle service from Al Husn to Chi, The Spa as it would’ve been quite a long walk for us and it was also raining that day.
As soon as we arrived at Chi, we were asked to fill out a form to disclose any medical issues that we have. On the form as well, you get to decide whether you’d like a soft, medium or hard pressure on your massage. You may also indicate which part of your body you’d like for the therapist to focus on or skip. I indicated my shoulders and back as the parts which need a lot of attention, I always have knots there.
Also we were given a menu of all of their treatments available for us. The menu indicates the pressure required for each massage so it was easy for us to decide which one to choose. We both wanted a light-pressured massage so we both chose to have Chi Balance massage for 60 minutes which is a gentle but penetrating palm pressure massage focusing on vitality, clarity and peace of mind.
Once all the information was collected, we were led to the spa facilities. There are separate sections for men and women, I was basically alone in the women section so I was able to enjoy it fully. I definitely enjoyed relaxing in the vitality hydro pool.
At exactly 4:45pm, my therapist met me at the relaxation area and guided me towards one of the villas. It was then did I realize the size of their spa – it was really massive. The villa that we’re in had two massage tables of course since we’re going to have a couple’s massage and a jacuzzi as well. You’ll have to book a different package though should you wish to use the jacuzzi.
The Greek Mister came in after a few minutes with his therapist who to my surprise is a man. I felt a bit awkward that there will be a man other than my husband inside the spa villa itself and to be honest, The Greek Mister wasn’t comfortable as well getting massage from a guy. It was funny really.
I did enjoy the whole spa experience though as my therapist followed all the instructions that I had on the form that I filled out – light pressure with a focus on my back and shoulders. It also wasn’t awkward to have another man inside the villa as everything was very discreet. I had to fight the urge from sleeping as I wanted to fully enjoy the experience.
By the time we finished with the massage, it was raining heavily outside but it wasn’t a problem though as they immediately called for a shuttle service to bring us back to Al Husn. I definitely enjoyed it, in fact – I think it’s the highlight of our stay in Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa for me.
I was a guest at Shangri La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa however as always, opinions stated and photos are my own.

Your photos of the Chi Spa are gorgeous. I’ve been tempted to have a massage at their Chiang Mai location, when I’ve been in town, but haven’t managed it yet. Now that I have seen how gorgeous the facilities are I will have to give it a go. Thanks for linking up to Travel Photo Thursday. #TPThursday
Oh! I will wait for your blog about it then. 🙂 It’s absolutely amazing.
Beautiful!
Interesting use of a fisheye effect in these photos, too.
