My idea of a nightlife is no longer the hardcore partying that I used to do back in my 20-ish days. As much as I would like to hate it, I am actually quite proud of myself that I have already gone way past that phase and is now happily living a more matured and uncomplicated life. A great night for me now is defined by a glass of cocktail in my hand with a few of my friends as we discuss politics religion cure for cancer the latest gossip. So much for being matured. Also, a great night for me must always be accompanied by a fantastic view in front of me which is why whenever the boyfriend and I go somewhere, we are always on the lookout for rooftop bars or lounge. That’s one of the many things that we have in common, thanks to Foursquare as we are able to always find one from where we are.
We took a 10-minute cab ride from Carlyle Suites Hotel to go to The Graham Hotel in Georgetown. The Observatory Rooftop Lounge offers sweeping views of Georgetown and Washington DC. At 6:30pm, most of the tables were already occupied. It was just in time for us to see the sun setting amidst the charming buildings of Georgetown. A soft music plays in the background, just enough to give an upbeat ambiance.
We were warned by some of the reviews on tripadvisor that it’s a pretentious and expensive place to have a drink but coming from Dubai, the price was still reasonable for us. We did go to another bar though afterwards and was able to compare the price, it is actually expensive but with that view and ambiance – I think they do have a right to charge that much. I must disagree though on the negative reviews of this place about the horrible service of their waitstaff because when we were there, there actually was no service at all. LOL. We had to go up to the bar to get ourselves a drink as there was no waitstaff in sight around us. If there was, they did a good job hiding from us. 🙂 We don’t mind though, we were too busy enjoying the ambiance and the view rather than looking for someone to serve us our drinks.
It’s a perfect place to unwind after a hard day’s work – sitting down at one of their comfortable couches with your favorite drink in hand as you watch the sun set over the busy and beautiful city of DC.

I’ve also shifted my nightlife focus from clubbing to rooftop bars. Cocktails are so much better with a view. Washington looks beautiful:)
I’ve long stopped going to clubs and bars, it gives me a headache. :p
Washington DC definitely is a pretty sight.
My night life these past years consist of me, husband, a bag of munchies, a couch and TV.. sounds good? 😉
Sounds tempting. I do have those kinds as well from time to time. 🙂
