Meeting the girl who puts the S in San Francisco.

It’s always nice to meet up with long lost friends when you travel so before heading out to San Francisco, I contacted my friend S who now lives in San Francisco and asked her if she would be free during the times that I’d be there. The answer was a very excited YES on any of the days. So we set up a date and started counting down for the meet up.

S was my dorm mate when we were still both going to the same university in the Philippines. Yes, a dorm. Ran by nuns. We had a 10pm curfew and our food was gross most of the time. Of course it was still fun because we made it as such. I had a very a vivid memory of the not-so-crazy things we would do inside our dorms when our university would be submerged once again under water during the typhoon season in the Philippines. I would say that we didn’t have class during 15% of our school days due to the numerous typhoons hitting our country hence, giving us enough time to hang out with our dorm mates and the nuns. Lol. My memories of S were so vivid that I thought she was with us until our third year in the university. Turned out she actually left the Philippines after the first year and moved to the US.

We met at Perbacco bar at the Financial District for dinner where I had the most amazing pappardelle – wide pasta ribbons with slow cooked short rib ragu. I have not had anything like that before, a short rib ragu with a pasta sounded a bit crazy for me but then it was so tender and tasted like it was the perfect combination to a pasta. Why haven’t I had this before? The beef literally melts in your mouth. Thinking about it now made my mouth water. S being allergic to alcohol didn’t drink anything, I know. Boring right? But she did compensate on the stories that she told me. Kind of gave me a glimpse of the dating scene in San Francisco. :p

After dinner, we went for a walk to go to Top of the Mark at Nob Hill but first, San Francisco’s cable car ride. S was gracious enough to take this very touristy ride with me to the Top of the Mark. S is a sweetheart. 🙂

We had some desserts and some drinks at the Top of the Mark which definitely gives you a fantastic skyline view of San Francisco. I had my crappy iphone5 with me so the photos that I took are really not post-worthy. More gossips of course were exchanged until it was time for us to go back to my hotel. We decided to walk the calories we ate towards my hotel. It was a beautiful night made even more memorable by S. 🙂

A dorm ran by nuns? Cool! We don’t have a lot of those in Denmark:)

Yeah and I had a fight with the head nun (not sure how the leader of the nuns is called so I thought it’s just like a head nurse) for disrespecting me. My exact words were: “and you call yourself a nun???”. I wasn’t kicked out or anything because she admitted she was wrong and apologized to me. :p
