Meeting Mitzie Mee in DC.

October 27, 2014
Patagonia, DC

Mitzie Mee is one of the Dubai-based bloggers who I have had the opportunity to get to know while in Dubai. The first time we met was during the charity event that I organized and she was one of the many bloggers who helped me advertise it. When I met her I knew that we’d get along because just like me, she has this unapologetic frankness in her, saying things as she sees it. So frank that she will have silly titles to people to remember them like “that old Norwegian guy“, well you bet that that guy is old and Norwegian. Nothing wrong about that, it’s just the way she tries to remember people. As I said, just saying it as she sees it. You’ll never believe who is the true b%^tch of instagram is according to her.

Moving on, when I arrived in the US, I found out that she was also headed in this part of the globe so we’ve made numerous plans to meet up but we just couldn’t find available times together which will fit both our schedules. Somehow though, while I was frolicking around the West Coast, we managed to work something out and I was able to convince her to go to Washington DC instead of me going to New York to meet her up. I found the train tickets too expensive from DC to New York that’s why. (I’m selfish I know but Mitzie Mee is a high roller so that’s ok :p) I’m just so glad that she agreed on it even if it means that her schedule will be slightly screwed up and she will spend only around 29 hours in DC. (Thank you Mitzie Mee!)

I met Mitzie Mee together with her gorgeous friend A at the lobby of Marriott Hotel in Georgetown which is where we’re all going to stay for the night. It was still too early to check-in so we decided to explore the tourist spots around the city as we wait for our rooms to be available. The location of Marriott Hotel in Georgetown is perfect for short time visitors of DC as it’s very near to everything that you must see. Of course, photos were taken.

After the short overview of DC tourist spots, we went back to our hotel to check-in and freshen up before heading out once again for lunch. I suggested that we go to Washington Harbor which I visited prior and loved it but it started to drizzle on our way so none of the restaurants in the area had their outdoor patio open which actually is the whole point of dining near the harbor. So we went back towards Georgetown and chose to have our lunch in an American restaurant called J.Paul’s.

After lunch, Mitzie Mee felt jetlagged and decided to go back to the hotel for a snooze while A and I continued on our walk around Georgetown. A went for shopping while I became her personal shopping adviser, she’s not very good at taking advice though. (You know why A, in case you’re reading this. :p) Not that I didn’t want to shop, it’s just that I have a tour of DC that I need to take the next day and I’ve no idea how will I be able to carry those as I do the tour. I did find a really nice full-length mirror though in TJ MAXX with a beautifully carved wood frame but well, I figured I can’t haul it myself towards the hotel. Let alone around DC while I take the tour the next day.

Took this photo near Patagonia where A shopped.

We went back to the hotel after A bought the shirt that I told her not to buy and woke up Mitzie Mee so we can have our dinner/drinks. A wanted to party (woo hoo!) as she was all by herself in New York for quite some time but much to her dismay, Mitzie Mee and I are feeling quite old for a party so we settled on going to a nearby pub which was supposedly hip and happening for college students called Froggy Bottom. It’s an Irish/Vietnamese pub – a very odd combination if you ask me but the food was (surprisingly) great! I had a shot of fireball mixed with my cider, a mixed drink I learned from the brother-in-law which all of you must try. Fireball is a cinnamon whiskey, very very yummy! At 10pm, our waitress was cleaning up and we’re informed that the dining area closes at 10. So much for a party for A. Sorry A.

Fresh garden spring rolls.

Fresh garden spring rolls from Froggy Bottom. Yum!

We arrived back at the hotel close to 11pm and for reasons I myself could not understand, lights were off in 30 minutes. All three of us were in la la land as soon as our backs lay flat on the bed.

It may be a short time with Mitzie Mee and A but I sure did enjoy it. Both of them are just like me when I travel, no frill and no drama. An invitation from A was laid on the table to visit her in Oslo which I really am seriously considering. 🙂

PS: Shopping with AC is a pain in the a**! She’ll ask for your advice 100 times, but she will not take it anyway, and you are dragged in and out of shops with a speed of 100mph. But you’ll get used to it:)

So that’s why you bailed on us and pretended to be sleepy? Didn’t even warn me. :p

Great to see you! As always, a pleasure. I’m back in Dubai now and it really strikes me how sad it is, that you’re not in town anymore. We should go and visit AC in Oslo someday, most preferably, when it’s snowing so I can hide inside with a cup of hot cocoa, while you’ll be building snowmen:)
