Markoff’s Haunted Forest Scared The Wits Out of Me

Since I was a kid, I’ve always enjoyed watching scary movies and not being able to sleep by myself for years afterwards. Yep, I’m a weirdo since I was a kid. Anyway, being in the US where Halloween is a big deal – I wanted to try something really halloween-y and there’s no other place to satisfy that Halloween thirst than Markoff’s Haunted Forest.

The entrance fee of USD35 per person was quite expensive but once you get inside, you’ll know that it was all worth it. Inside the venue itself, they have a huge area for some other activities like bonfires, zip line, hay ride, fire dancers and a lot of other activities for adults and children alike. Food stalls are also available as well as porta cabins. It was very well-organized and well-thought of. There were some staff in scary costumes and even scarier make-ups walking up behind people and scaring them. It was funny to just watch people scream (and run) at the top of their lungs. The only downside was we had to wait for 2 hours before our numbers were called to finally go inside the haunted forest and start scaring the bejesus out of ourselves. Was it worth the wait? Oh yes it was!

Let’s just say I was out of breathe at some point during the 30-minute walk around the forest from screaming and laughing at the same time. It was scary most definitely but I can’t help but laugh at myself for getting that scared. Saying that I had a great time is an understatement, I had a blast!

I closed my eyes as we entered Markoff’s Haunted Forest and pushed my equally scared sister to lead the way. It was eerily dark in the forest with only candles or torch lighting the way so you’d definitely jump up when someone creeps up behind you to scare you. I was extremely scared during that part where zombies were lying face down on the ground and will start grabbing your legs as soon as you pass by them. I think I peed a little at that part. Lol. The whole forest was properly designed to scare you, there were some stuffed lifesize dolls or statues alongside real people so that feeling of being always on the lookout of who’s going to move and jump on you was scary at the same time hilarious. So many times that I’ve let my guard down as I thought they were just statues until they suddenly moved and were right in front of my face. Yaiks! The last part was called the junkyard where guys with chainsaws will chase you. I wasn’t able to take photos of the venue or even the forest itself as it was too dark and I was too busy screaming my lungs out but you visit this video done by Christian Hellwig which totally summarized what I’ve seen and experienced at Markoff’s Haunted Forest.

This is definitely the place to get your Halloween fix and yes, I was able to sleep that night afterwards. Lol.
