Kastani Beach, Skopelos – The Mamma Mia Beach!

Kastani beach, Skopelos, Greece

When we arrived in Kastani beach, I was a bit overwhelmed with the number of people there. I got so used to the less touristic beaches of Pelion and Alonissos during this holiday that seeing that many people in Kastani beach was very startling for me. It definitely is the most popular beach in Skopelos, I think since it was the most crowded that I’ve seen there. It’s huge though so no matter how crowded it may be, it still doesn’t feel like you’re struggling for your own personal space while you’re there.

Kastani beach is a sandy beach surrounded by olive groves and pine trees, it is very fitting to be a setting of a movie which of course it is – Mamma Mia, what else? I watched Mamma Mia on our way back to Doha after this holiday and the scenes which they’ve shot in Kastani beach was very unmistakable. I recognized it immediately. It may have been made even more popular by the movie but Kastani beach definitely does have a charm and beauty on its own which would make anyone want to go there – Hollywood movie or not.

It’s a very organized beach with a lot of sunbeds available and even a garden lounge which looks very fitting to be a perfect venue for an upscale nightlife activity. The incredible shade of blue of the sea is intoxicating, it looks so amazing that I found myself just staring at the waters as it glisten under the rays of the sun. Opposite the beach itself was an island which adds up to the already scenic beauty of Kastani beach. We stayed there for a couple of hours. It was too hot that day which made sunbathing quite a nuisance for me. At some point, I just gave up and sat on the shore as I read my book. Being refreshed by the cool waters of Kastani beach as you sunbathe is much more better.

When a ferry docked at the left end of the beach, it was a sign for us to go before all the tourists from that ferry makes it even more crowded. 🙂

I wonder how many people went there before the movie was filmed. It looks beautiful! I really have to try and get to Greece one day soon #WeeklyPostcard

They said that Kastani beach is already popular even before the movie but of course, it got more crowded after it. 🙂
Good thing though, it was able to keep its natural charm.

I’ve visited Skopelos briefly in the past, but didn’t make it to Kastani beach! It looks picturesque, but I guess it’s small for the amount of people who want to visit!!

It’s actually quite a long beach but I do believe it would get really crowded during the peak season specially with the cruise ships stopping by. 🙂
