After spending most of our afternoon at Elia beach, we transferred to Banana beach. I admit that we were lured to it because of its notorious popularity of being THE party beach in Skiathos. The Greek Mister’s friend is going through puberty so a party is a must when traveling with him, of course I’m kidding. He just finished his puberty stage a month ago. I kid again. :p
Anyway, I admit though that I was curious at that time if I am still up for a beach party. I had numerous of it back in the days but I’d like to know how I’d cope with such activity at this day and age. Mind you, I’m not that old it’s just that I’ve had enough of the crazy parties and prefer something more laidback these days. That, or maybe I have just become very lazy.
The road to Banana beach is yet another dirt road, it was of course packed when we arrived with mostly young crowd. Locals called this beach Krasa but with the passage of time, it became popular to nudists and was renamed Banana. You can probably understand why the choice was banana and not, I don’t know, pineapple perhaps? Whatever reason it is you’re thinking, you’re most probably wrong because it was named Banana after the beach’s shape – at least that’s what I got from the little research that I did. * wink * wink *
It is now divided into two though – big banana and little banana, the latter became strictly for nudists while the former is for any kinds of beach fanatics. We didn’t see any nudists though in the big banana beach but we didn’t really walk around that much. :p It’s very organized with a multitude of bars, sunbeds and even bean bags sprawled on the sandy beach. Water sports are also available.
Banana beach is a popular spot to view the sunset in Skiathos and even long after the sun has set, the fun never stops in this place. A very popular place for partygoers all throughout the day is an elevated beach bar called Bananistas. It was already packed when we arrived so we settled on one of the bars by the beach itself and ordered drinks and a club sandwich to share. We were planning to have meat for dinner later that night so this became a light snack for all of us.
A chillout music plays in the background as you watch the activity surrounding you is a good way to pass time if you ask me – that’s exactly what we did while in Banana beach. At some point, I was intoxicated by the glistening water at the horizon as the sun shines on it – it has a weird calming effect on me that I just stared at it for a very long time. When I pointed it out to The Greek Mister and his friend, they both told me that they too were staring at it. You’d think we’re high on something but not really, it’s just a really beautiful scene to look at.
