We tried out Cafe Bateel in Marina Walk a few weeks ago and I must say that I was disappointed by the experience. I had high hopes for this cafe as I think it’s one of the most popular cafes in this area and there should be a valid reason why. It was packed when we got there thankfully though, we immediately found an empty outdoor table but as it turned out, that will be the best thing which will ever happen to us out of that dining experience.
I will have to say that it was probably very busy that day which somehow created a delay on their service, I wasn’t really concerned much about it as I do work in the customer service industry too so I can understand the delay as the place was really packed that day. It’s not really rocket science to understand that the servers were all doing the best they can to accommodate each and every requests of their diners. What comes lacking for me was the quality of the food itself. I ordered the Bateel Club Sandwich which was so bland. The lettuce on the side was inedible, kinda tasted like it’s been their fridge for a week or two. I probably expected more out of it due to the fact that they claimed to offer unique and innovative range of gourmet foods and beverages on their website. Well that club sandwich right there is definitely not gourmet.
I had hot chocolate which came as little bits of pieces of cocoa in a quirky little glass and I was given a pitcher of milk to pour onto it. It was actually good although the milk wasn’t hot enough to melt all of the chocolate so it ended up tasting a little bit funny.
The location and the ambiance of the restaurant was great though, probably the only thing which I really liked about it. Right smack in the middle of Marina Walk with the views of the… well… Marina? with its numerous yachts bobbing up and down in front of you.
I’d give it another go, I probably went there on a not-so-good day.
