Dubai Jazz Festival: One Republic

February 24, 2013

In some weird and very interesting turn of events, I got a VIP ticket for 2 to the Dubai Jazz Festival. It’s a yearly event sponsored by Emirates Airlines (previously it was sponsored by Skywards) and it’s a week-long musical extravaganza featuring budding artists along with the really huge names.

The ticket that I got was for the day when One Republic was going to perform. I’m not really a huge fan and I never really enjoyed going to concerts but this concert right here was just extremely amazing! I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that we were at the VIP section with the waiters asking me if I want a refill of my champagne while I stuff my face with sushi and rolls from their buffet section (unlimited food and beverages for the VIP’s) or if it’s because the concert was the most organized event I have ever been to (what with the recent Atelier NYE Festival being a huge flop, almost any slightly organized event will be good enough for me) or if it’s because One Republic gave an awesome performance. I think it’s a combination of the 3.

When the VIP tickets were handed to me, I actually didn’t want to go and was planning to give it to a friend who by the way stupidly declined the offer because she already bought a regular ticket. Who does that? Anyway, so I called up another friend and asked her if she would like to take her husband with her to the concert since it’s Valentine’s Day after all. She told me that I have to go with her instead since it’s my ticket. I was still a little bit adamant about going because first off, I’ve no idea who One Republic is and not even sure if I’ve heard any of their songs. Well it turned out I know MOST of the songs and I found myself humming along with them as they perform each of their hit songs.

Woot woot!

Woot woot!

The venue itself was amazing and very well organized, the only downside was it’s in the outskirts of Dubai at the Festival City area. Well not really the outskirts but it was far away from me and catching a cab on the way back to civilization was a headache, we waited for about an hour and I tell you what, waiting for a cab with a huge amount of free champagne inside your system is not a very good idea.

And because it was Valentine’s Day, love was definitely in the air:

I leave you now with a song that I actually like but didn’t know that it was One Republic’s song, the video quality is shitty though.

And this is us… 🙂

I loved this post! B.t.w. Who’s that stupid friend of yours who declined the VIP tickets?! :p

Seeing the California roll makes me have regrets though! Hopefully next time around 😀

I’m glad you enjoyed the concert….I can’t believe that you never enjoyed going to concerts! I live for concerts :p

I’m not even sure how to describe the stupid friend other than she’s got some weird reasoning out of life. :p

I had about 20pcs of california rolls. :p We should binge on Japanese food next time, after zumba. hahahaha.

Yes, I’m not really into concerts and not really sure why. 😕
