“Listen, we’ve lived in Doha for 9 years now. We’ve tried so many Friday brunches in the city and this here is one of our favorites. So if you say anything bad on your review, we will be on you.”
Those were the threatening words to me by 4 diners at the Tap Brunch in Oryx Rotana Doha but as you may know, I am not easily shaken nor persuaded by threats. So I’ll give you my honest to goodness review. The Tap Brunch at Oryx Rotana Doha is absolutely fantastic! Yep, there really is no need for threats nor a gun pointed at my head to say those words as I’ve already made my decision before I spoke to this fun-loving group who showed extremely loyalty to The Cellar’s brunch.
If you’ve been following this blog, you may have remembered that we had our dinner here last week and although we’ve had a not-so-good experience with the service, we had a great experience in food quality – enough for us to decide to try out their Tap Brunch which sounds like a good steal for its price. Oryx Rotana Doha caught this review and reached out to me, apologizing for the service and asked for me to try it again. To be very honest though, there’s no need to redeem themselves since we were actually bound to go there for the Tap Brunch but who am I to decline a complimentary service?
The Cellar was already full when we walked in, I quickly put my blogger hat on and snapped all the photos I can before the place gets busier. The first waiter offered us a drink but didn’t explain how Tap Brunch works but it was quickly saved by the outlet’s manager Ms. Elsa who came to our table and explained it in detail.
Priced at QAR275 per person with unlimited jugs of sangria which had us yelling Ole! after the first round, I think it’s
one of the most reasonably priced Friday brunch in Doha. Cold tapas are laid out on their spread while the hot tapas and main dishes are served to your table directly from the kitchen. It may not be laid out on their buffet spread but you can order as much hot tapas and main dishes as you can handle.
On top of these, the chef comes out from the kitchen with a pan of paella in hand to spread culinary joy to their guests at some point. I was already full when he came out but the paella at The Cellar is something that I’m not going to miss – it was the main reason why we were even there. It was love at first bite when I was at The Cellar last week and I think it would be an endless affair.
The Greek Mister loved the concept of having the food brought to your table – he’s not a big fan of buffets as he thinks that you don’t really get to spend time with the people you’re with when you keep on standing to get food. I do get his point and I have to agree that it’s more fun this way. You’re just sitting there the whole time while food and drinks are being brought to you, now that sounds like an ideal weekend yes?
More than the food itself and the lively ambiance of the place, I will have to extend my praises to The Cellar’s manager Ms. Elsa. She was all over the place all throughout the Tap Brunch – serving, clearing up the table, assisting diner’s requests – she’s a very hands-on as a manager which I think is very rare. Her service is highly commendable.
I do stand by my previous review but as with any dining outlets or any customer-oriented outlets in general, it’s impossible to keep the same standard of service no matter how hard you try. Having worked in the customer service field myself, I know that bad days are inevitable. So I guess I caught them during one of their bad days during my first visit.
After this first Tap Brunch experience, I may join the 4 loyal patrons of The Cellar’s brunch who threatened me with my review. Seriously though, it’s a great brunch – in terms of food quality, price and service.
As previously mentioned, I was a guest at The Cellar’s Tap Brunch however as always opinions stated are my own and are in no way influenced.
