My business lunch buddy is back from her vacation! Hooray!!! We immediately started our weekly business lunch meet-up as soon as she got back and our first destination for 2016 was the newly opened Shangri La Hotel in Doha. Every single person I know seem to have already tried out the incredibly priced buffet lunch at their all-day dining restaurant called Sridan except for us. Priced at QR99 per person for a limited period of time only, I couldn’t pass up on that very good deal can I?
Arriving at the Shangri-La Hotel I have to say was a bit disappointing though. It was beautiful yes, but not as grand as I was expecting it to be considering that it’s a Shangri-La. The palatial lobby of Al Husn in Muscat immediately came to mind which is definitely not comparable to Doha’s Shangri-La, I’m being very unfair I know because Shangri-La in Doha is a hotel and not a resort compared to the one in Muscat.
As with any Shangri-La’s out there, a staff immediately came to my rescue when I was trying to figure out where Sridan was located. She guided me to the elevator and wished me to have a good day and a great meal. Upon arrival at Sridan, I was met by the receptionist who led me to our table and explained the food stations in the buffet spread. They offer a wide array of options: Indian, Moroccan, Asian, Sushi, Desserts and they also have a grill station.
I was surprised that it was packed considering that it was a Monday. Most of the people are in big groups in their office uniform so they’re most probably working within the vicinity and decided to try this amazing offer of Sridan.
I’m not very good with buffets as I always tend to get overwhelmed by all the food and fill up my plate with more than what I could handle. For this buffet though, I tried to pace myself and was able to somehow try most of what they have.
My favorite is definitely the live cooking station of Asian noodles, I think it’s the first time I’ve seen such in a buffet. I would’ve also binged on the dimsums but it was always empty – I’m not sure if they’re having a hard time to keep up with the refills of each dishes or the dimsums are just so good that all of the diners immediately take some once it’s refilled.
Service was quick, attentive and friendly – I like how all of the staff in the restaurant seem to be proactive and does what needs to be done even if they’re not assigned to do it. While I’m not a huge fan of buffets, I’d definitely go back for the price they have. I just hope that when they finally roll over their official non-promotional prices, it won’t be so expensive. 🙂
