When was the first time you’ve been to a Christmas market? My answer is last Friday at the Christmas in Leicester Square Christmas Market. It’s really funny how I’ve sold so many Christmas holiday packages when I was a travel agent in Dubai and yet, I’ve never been to one. That is, until last Friday.
Leicester Square was transformed to a Christmas wonderland filled with stalls for food, handmade products and a chance to meet Father Christmas. The Olivier Award-winning theatre group La Soiree is also performing in a makeshift theater inside the Christmas market. We’re planning to watch it one of these days and if you do have the same plan, book your tickets ahead of time.
Wooden huts are dotted around the Christmas market where you can find stalls selling unique handmade products, great gift ideas for anyone this Christmas. From wooden crafts, stuffed toys, lanterns, weirdly shaped chocolates, scarves, leather bags, candle holder and scented candles just to name a few.
There were also some food stalls around and I do highly recommend for you to try The French Comte’s raclette which was amazingly good. I had to wait for 30 minutes though to get myself a raclette with sausage but that was okay because the staff gave complimentary pieces of sausage for all those who were in line. A good sales tactic as it just made me crave for it more.
The only thing that I didn’t quite like about Christmas in Leicester Square is the lack of dining tables. Lol. It’s focused a lot on shopping and not really much on dining. It would’ve been a better raclette experience for me if I was able to eat it while sitting down and not trying to balance the food, drink and my phone while eating.
Christmas in Leicester Square is open until 8th of Januray 2017 from 10AM to 10PM. Entry is free except if you wish to watch La Soiree (ticket price starts from GBP38) or if you want to meet Santa himself (ticket costs GBP9). Leicester Square Tube Station is the nearest to Leicester Square. It’s a great place to visit specially if you’re doing your Christmas gift shopping or you just want to try out some dishes offered.
