A tropical storm is currently wrecking havoc in the Philippines as I type this entry and my hometown has suffered the most during this storm. It’s devastating to see the photos on the news – roads and houses under water, people on the roof of their houses seeking refuge as they have no other place to go and relief operations in different parts of my town. It is devastating and saddening if you read the news but try going through my personal Facebook account, it makes me smile and makes me even prouder to be a Filipino.
You see, we are used to these calamities. The Philippines being an archipelago suffers a lot from storm/typhoons and we have somehow adapted to this kind of life, we have accepted this fate and being the wise people that we are – we are prepared to face the worst. The Filipino resilience is beyond your imagination, there is no storm that we are unable to go through (literally and metaphorically speaking). In the course of all these calamities that we have been facing year after year, we will always find a reason to smile and think of only one important thing – it will pass. These photos will prove it:
And once the water finally subsides, cleaning up is always a messy affair.
In times of calamities, it’s good to have the Filipino spirit – it’s waterproof. 🙂
