“There’s nothing quite like it.” A perfect summary of the new Friday brunch concept of The Lagoon Restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Doha. I can finish this blog post now just by saying that but I won’t because you’d need more reasons why and photos to prove it, right?

There’s a common concept in all of the Friday brunches in the city and that is to give you a huge spread of food and an unlimited drinks to satisfy your gustatory and alcohol needs. Nobody has ever thought of unique ways to entice people to join their brunch because there will be Friday brunch-hungry guests, no matter what. That’s a commonality the Ritz Carlton plans to defy with their new picnic brunch concept and they were successful in doing so.

A picnic brunch? Isn’t it too hot to have a picnic these days?  was the question I asked Ritz Carlton Doha when I received an invite to try out this new concept. I have totally forgotten how being in their indoor dining area gives you the illusion of being outside with the floor-to-ceiling windows, palm trees and a sky painted up on their ceiling. Throw in some outdoor umbrellas and a few picnic tables and you won’t even feel for a second that you are, actually, indoors.

A plate of appetizers was already laid on our table as soon as we arrived and this is one thing about the picnic brunch which I love. A set of appetizers, main dishes and desserts are to be delivered to your table for you to share – picnic style. On top of that, you also have the option to get some more food from their buffet spread in case it isn’t enough. And trust me, you would want to see their buffet spread selections.

The hotdog stand was a favorite of many but the real star of this brunch is the grilled tomahawk steak waiting for you at their grill station outside of the Lagoon restaurant. Together with the grilled lobster, this station is not to be missed.

As for the main courses delivered to our table, my favorites were the braised lamb which was cooked to perfection – so delicate and soft, you won’t be needing a knife for it. The sauce used for the baby chicken is also phenomenal, you’d want to ask for pieces of bread to scrape this deliciousness out of the plate. Mmmmmmm.

The only downside that I can think of for this brunch was the drinks (quite an important aspect of a brunch if you ask me), it seems to me like the bartender doesn’t know how to properly mix a good cocktail. It’s either too strong or too diluted, I wasn’t able to try any drink which was perfectly mixed. On the other hand, you do have the option to get yourself a bottle of beer or a glass of wine or bubbly. I wish though they’d be able to master the cocktail mixing for our next visit, yes there will be a next visit.

The price of this picnic brunch is the most surprising of all for me. For QR349 per person for their alcohol package, it definitely sets it apart from all the brunches in the city with some of them charging as much as QR450. A reasonable amount for something so good, others will definitely find it hard to match this dining experience.

CPH I think is the best place to have this kind of concept. It was a really a fun brunch, if only the cocktails were as good as the concept itself. Lol.

Mouth watering! The outside looks cozy and perfect for this brunch picnic! 🙂

    • Pinay Flying High May 15, 2016 at 12:15

It is! Just too hot these days to sit outside here. Maybe when winter comes. 🙂

Such a great concept! It really looks like a picnic (though not a picnic a la Mitzie Mee, more a la Martha Stewart or Gordon R.):) Too abd that they didn’t get the drinks right, but I guess that’s the perfect excuse for doing tequila shots? 🙂

    • Pinay Flying High May 15, 2016 at 12:15

Tequila shots during a picnic? That is ala Mitzie Mee I suppose? Lol.

Hi this is Ayesha from Life is full of colors blog. I met u the other day at the Picnic and it was a pleasure to meet you! Just read your review and its great. The snaps are amazing. But I just found out that I totally missed on the steaks and the small buffet spread. Nobody told me about it! So I guess I am going back to try that out!

    • Pinay Flying High May 10, 2016 at 12:57

Ohhhh that’s a shame! I don’t really remember if anyone told us about the buffet spread but I guess it’s just a habit whenever we’re at a Friday brunch in the Lagoon. I walked around before we started the brunch to take photos so possibly, that’s another reason why I knew there was a buffet. Lol. Yeah, you should go back. We will too. Nice to meet you too. 🙂
