The season of outdoor dining has arrived my fellow residents of the sandpit. It’s now time to think about the important things in life with the mercury slowly going down to 30 degrees. First order of business is of course, where I can make the most out of the weather I have waited to arrive for such a long time? Well I do have the answer for you if you’re looking for the ultimate outdoor destination for your Thursday nights: Backyard at The Lagoon at The Ritz-Carlton Doha.
I am just completing my first year in Doha so everything that I am experiencing in the city up until now is a first time for me. When I first heard about the Backyard at The Lagoon, I wasn’t sure what to expect. All I know is that it sounds interesting specially with the word “backyard” in it. I was sure it’s going to be an al fresco dining which is what I prefer.
As I walked towards the backyard of the Lagoon restaurant, I was suddenly transported back to the time when I was hanging out by the Spruce Street Harbor Park in Philadelphia. It had the same hip and very laidback backyard feel which practically begs you to take off your shoes, prop your feet up and just enjoy your beer and some barbecue grills.
Strung lights flicker over the entire venue, a band performs their own version of popular songs live on the stage, blankets sprawled over the grassy area with plush pillows, oversized beanbags and small tables, long wooden tables in one corner and at the very end of the venue are some normal wooden tables for the more traditional diners – does it not make you want to check it out right away?
When I posted the first photo I took of the Backyard at the Lagoon in my social media accounts – it immediately got a lot of attention. So many likes, shares and comments in such a small period of time that I think it’s a record-breaker for anything that I have ever shared on social media. Well, the photo doesn’t even give justice to how awesome this place really is.
The best thing about the Backyard at the Lagoon is they didn’t rely solely on the perfection of their venue as their main selling point for this event because the food is just as great! The beef burger served was one of the juiciest and tastiest we’ve had here in Doha while the Mini Chipotle Short Ribs Slider had the right amount of sweetness in its very tender short ribs meat which will make you crave for more. We also had Tortilla Chips, Cajun Fries and Chicken Quesadilla – all of which were highly enjoyed by us with our drinks.
It’s amazing really! I couldn’t stop talking about it to my friends afterwards and we’ve already scheduled to go back there next Thursday. Yes, the sad part is – it only happens on Thursdays. They should probably do it for the whole weekend and start as early as 3pm perhaps? 🙂

I was a guest at Backyard at The Lagoon at The Ritz-Carlton Doha however as always, all photos are taken by myself and opinion stated is genuine and in no way influenced. Alcoholic drinks consumed are paid for by ourselves.
A week after this first visit, I went back to the Backyard at The Lagoon only to have a completely different experience from this one. You can read about it here.
