Atelier Dubai NYE Concert

VIP my ass!

VIP my ass!

Welcoming the new year while waiting in line to get in the highly advertised biggest party of NYE is not really my cup of tea. It’s a good thing that we were able to get into the concert 15 minutes before the actual countdown to 2013 began. I was pissed and highly disappointed that the queue for the VIP ticket holders was longer than the standard ticket holders. I mean they have been advertising this event non-stop and are incapable of handling such a large number of audience. We waited for 2 hours to get in the venue and some people didn’t even fall in line and just squeezed their way in at the entrance and the security guards who were checking our tickets just let them. That frustrated me even more. Once you get in you’ll have to wait another 45 minutes to get your drinks using your vouchers. The bar was actually already full of people trying to get hold of their drinks and on top of all that, the bartenders seem to not know what they’re doing and moving behind the bars like zombies which in turn makes people wait longer. I don’t know where they hired these bartenders from but I don’t think they were even really bartenders in the first place. It was highly disappointing, really. The most logical thing for an event organizer to do if you are going to advertise something massively is to make sure that you are able to handle the number of people who will attend your event. I didn’t think they had that in mind. All they’re after was to make money and leave everything else to pure luck which sadly, they didn’t have during that time because it was just really horrible. AED750 for all that crap??? Never again with an Atelier event. Seriously. We only used AED400 out of the AED1600 vouchers that we have (combined) and for the amount of AED750, we could have gone some place else which may offer us an unlimited drinks.

To be fair though, if you’ve passed thru all those queues and you’re inside the venue itself it is actually nice.

The whole place was packed but not congested. At some point we ended up in the reserved table areas for reasons I don’t really understand. I think while trying to watch the fireworks of Burj Khalifa (too far away from the venue itself) we kept walking and didn’t realize that we walked past a bouncer who’s supposed to be steering VIP people away from the reserved table areas but they were also too busy watching the fireworks. Snoop Dogg was a great performer as well, I’m not really a big fan but I am of course familiar with his songs. He knows how to work up the crowd and delivers a good show. I must say Snoop saved the day. :p

[…] because the concert was the most organized event I have ever been to (what with the recent Atelier NYE Festival being a huge flop, almost any slightly organized event will be good enough for me) or if […]

I’m sad to hear that you went through all of that with VIP tickets! I hope we get to do something better together next year 🙂
If it makes you feel any better, Hong Kong is far more crowded than Dubai. And it’s worse because of the smaller space everywhere you go. I wanted to see the fireworks on Victoria Harbour on NYE. But ended up walking to the promenade and seeing that it was blocked and over-crowded already, so I couldn’t get in. Plus, I didn’t want to be stuck in the crowd and have a hard time getting out. So what did I do? I walked back to my hotel room and was there at 11. Tried to find the fireworks on TV at midnight, but with no luck! So I took a shower and went to sleep 🙂 I think I will be spending next NYE in Dubai! I’ll tell you more details when I see you 😉
