Last Thursday, I asked my mother if she’d like to go with me to explore the Old Town of Winchester Virginia. I only have a few days left in the US and I’d like to see as many places as I can and would love to spend my time as well with my Mom so dragging her out on a day tour is the best solution to do both. 🙂 I am no city girl, that I know for sure. I’d rather live in a small, old and quaint little town than in the big cities. I love places with character, history and charm. Winchester Virginia is that exact place.
We left our house at around 10am and drove for almost 2 hours to get to Winchester Virginia. It was a scenic drive passing by a lot of the wineries along Virginia, it would’ve been prettier if it was summer I bet. We had to go back home early as it was my nephew’s birthday so my main focus on what to explore was Winchester’s Old Town. As soon as we walked through the Old Town’s brick arch, we were transported back in time. It looks like a Western film’s movie location that I was expecting a horse-drawn carriage to pass by us at any moment. It was too perfect to be real.
We focused mainly on Loudon Street’s Pedestrian Mall which was deserted as it was too cold that time. We were practically the only ones walking around as everyone’s confined inside the warmth of the shops and restaurants lined up in this pedestrian street. It worked well for us as we were able to explore the place with much freedom and I was able to take photos and videos without much people in it. 🙂 It didn’t take long though before the cold caught up with me and my hands started to freeze. I couldn’t hold my camera still as I was shaking from the cold. We had to go inside one of the restaurants to grab some lunch and defrost ourselves a little. 🙂
The Winchester residents are incredibly nice too. I think it was the only place I’ve been to where someone would wish for me to be able to capture great photos when they saw me setting up my camera. The charm of the place combined with the warmth of its people makes it a great destination for me to spend a day in.
It truly was a day well spent with my Mom in the beautiful Winchester Virginia.
